We caught up with both players to see how they feel about winning the award and their future aspirations in the world of tennis!
Alex (9U)
How old are you and how many years have you been playing tennis?
I’m 9 years old and have been playing tennis for 5 years.
What do you love about tennis?
I love running around and playing matches.
How do you feel about being ‘Performance Player of the Month’?
Amazing, really happy!
Why do you think you won this month’s award?
I think I won because I’m on time and have been concentrating and listening during lessons.
What is your ultimate goal in the tennis?
To play at Wimbledon!
Martino (10+)
How old are you and how many years have you been playing tennis?
I am 12 and have been playing tennis for 9 years!
What do you love about tennis?
I love anything to do with tennis. I enjoy the feeling when I hit the ball, I love watching tennis matches, I love the smell of new tennis balls! I like to have something to commit to, especially when I work on a shot and then use it in a match. I really love the whole thing!
How do you feel about being ‘Performance Player of the Month’?
I feel very privileged to have been the first person to have won this award, I am proud of myself.
Why do you think you won this month’s award?
I think I won this award because I have been working very hard always looking to improve my game and committing myself to training and competitions.
What is your ultimate goal in tennis?
My ultimate goal in tennis is to become a professional... maybe one of the best ones...!
About the award:
The award for Performance Player of the Month has been introduced by our coaching team, to recognise players who go above and beyond on the tennis court and in the gym! The award is not designed to commend tournament results alone. Instead, each month the team will assess all performance players based on a 5-point criteria which considers; work ethic, leadership, professionalism, goal setting and dedication. There will be two winners every month throughout 2019, one from the 9U age group and another from the 10+.
